Betrayed Alliance is a lovely pixel-art Sierra-style text parser game. Mystery and intrigue surround you as you immerse yourself in the land trying to clear your name from being falsely accused of kidnapping the princess! Danger lurks everywhere! Highly reccomended if you like the old classic EGA Quest for Glory style games, or adventure games altogether. Go back in time with the sierra SCI interpreter old style text parser games! A must play.

Betrayed Alliance is a true love letter to the classic Sierra-style adventure games, inspired by Quest For Glory in particular. The focus is not so much on combat though, but exploration and puzzle solving. There's plenty of places to explore just in this first book, characters to interact with and perils to face! And if you like a good old Sierra death, there's plenty of those as well! Difficulty is set just right and the puzzles aren't at all tedious or illogical. There's even a novice setting that gives you extra hints and allows you to skip certain puzzles, like a slider puzzle for example if you're not a fan of those ;) There's also different side quests like collecting marbles to make up the solar system, or books to be returned to the library for a reward. Without spoiling anything this first book ends on a cliffhanger that gives us a brief taste of what's to come, and I can't wait for the next installment!

While seemingly a descendant of Quest for Glory, "Betrayed Alliance" plays out much more like a conventional text parser classic. You'll spend more time exploring the world's history, helping its inhabitants, and fulfilling your grand quest than fighting monsters.
The game strives to be the Sierra you remember, not necessarily the one you experienced. Improvements bring the game in line with more modern ideals, like forewarning before death, a fast travel system, and wonderful real-time elements that play out much more effectively than anything in the old SCI games.
I found the world to be compelling, the puzzles fun, and a few of the backgrounds to be quite impressive by SCI standards. Betrayed Alliance is absolutely worth its short play time, and will leave you eager for Book 2!
