King's Quest V: Absence Makes the Heart Go Yonder is the fifth installment of the King's Quest Series.

Description

In keeping with Sierra's tradition of using cutting edge technology in its current games they were developing, King's Quest V: Absence Makes the Heart Go Yonder is Sierra's first VGA game and one of the first ever VGA games. The game featured Sierra's new Point & Click interface. The MPC re-release was one of Sierra's first CD-ROM games. The huge increase in storage capacity allowed for both digital sound effects and speech files, making it Sierra's first talkie adventure game. To accommodate the addition of the digital audio files, the SCI1 interpreter had a new type of resource added, AUDIO. Prior SCI games had to embed digital samples (only 8-bit mono) in a SOUND resource. The size was limited to just 65536 bytes, total. Small digital samples could also be included in the MT-32 sound track, but this was limited to those luck few who owned a Roland MT-32 module. The full AUDIO resources only required the user to have a digital sound card.
